 |
FIRE PROTECTION |
Solaris glass brick walls built with bricks in the 190mm x 190mm x 80mm
format are considered to be fire resistant. Fire resistance tests were as
follows:
Fire resistance class G60 (fire
resistance up to 60 minutes) for one wall 80mm thick.
Fire resistance class G120 (fire
resistance up to 120 minutes) for two walls 80mm thick.
The building materials glass, cement mortar, and reinforcing steel are Class
A-1 non-combustible building materials. The individual glass brick surface area
used in the fire test (1850mm x 1850mm) must not be exceeded.
 |
THERMAL INSULATION |
Solaris glass brick walls will help reduce the overheating of interior spaces
caused by the penetration of sunlight during the summer months, while also
permitting the low-lying winter sun to make a maximum contribution to room
heating.
Glass brick walls meet the requirements of the building code regarding
energy-saving thermal insulation on buildings with normal indoor temperature.
The thermal conductivity coefficient of glass bricks windows is comparable with
the property in normal thermopane double glazing.
A 1/r heat transmission resistance of glass brick
walls and a thermal conductivity coefficient of k depend on the dimension of the
glass bricks and the joining material.
 |
TRANSPARENCY |
The degree of glass brick transparency on walls can be adjusted by varying
the design of the individual glass brick. Whatever the requirements, virtually
any degree of visibility protection is possible: from clear view glass bricks
with plane parallel surfaces providing transparency from the inside without
major distortions, to decorative bricks which make object recognition difficult,
all the way to glass bricks which only produce a diffuse light and do not permit
any form recognition.
 |
BULLET-RESISTANT GLAZING |
The special BSH20 glass brick is identical with a normal glass brick, but
when subjected to triple firing as specified in DIN 52 290/Z, it meets the requirements
of classification C 5-SA, the highest level of bullet resistance in glass.
Single-shell glass brick elements will provide bullet resistance classification
C 3-SA on single firing, and C 2-SA for triple firing. Double-shell glass brick
elements provide bullet resistance classification C 5-SA on triple firing.
 |
BURGLAR - PROOF GLAZING |
The efficiency of glass brick walls with high level of burglar-proofing can
be vastly improved by selecting specific glass brick sizes, joint widths and
mortar joint reinforcements. Resistance classification WK10 is provided by glass
bricks up to 240mm x 240mm, and resistance WK60 is provided by glass bricks with
dimension 190mm x 190mm, presupposing a cross-wise reinforcement of the mortar
joints with special steel.

SOUND INSULATION |
Acoustic insulation rating Rw varies according to the glass brick
format used in a wall constructed with Solaris glass bricks. The average value
is 41dB.
