- Can the GF Serene system be used externally? - Yes it can, but special (less cost effective) finishes would have to be used on the external surface around doors and top and bottom skirting’s to ensure the GF Serene system is waterproof.
- What are the options in finishes for the GF Serene system? - The typical top and bottom cladding of the frames of our GF Serene system and the cladding of the frames around the Varikust® acoustic doors (surrounded by aluminium) are available in any of our melawood colours. However Formica could also be an option.
- What is the maximum height of the GF Serene partition? - The GF Serene system can go up to 3000mm above fixed floor level, but is more economical if your height is in the region of approx. 2500mm above fixed floor level due to standard glass sizes.
- Is the GF Serene a fixed partition or a mobile partition? - The GF Serene is a fixed partition, but can be demounted if required. The track and glass can then be re-used under the correct conditions.
- Can I not just put acoustic glass or normal double glazing into a standard shopfront and still get the acoustic benefit? - Unfortunately no. The sound will travel through the weakest point – in this case the frame and you will therefore (despite the acoustic properties of the glass) not reduce the required sound transmission.
- What structure needs to be provided for a GF Serene? - You can finish the system at the top of a concrete slab (exposed) ceiling board, steel beam, dry wall or anything that would sufficiently support the top of the system. Please note: should there be a void above the ceiling, a bulkhead would be needed for the higher dB rating partitions (excluding 35dB).
- Can a Varikust® door be installed externally? - Yes, marine ply, water resistant chip or other water-resistant boards can be applied depending on the exposure etc. These finishes must be maintained on a regular basis.
- Can a Varikust® door be installed into a drywall opening? - Yes we can but an H-frame or other sufficient support needs to be built into the drywall prior to installation.
- Is installation included in the Varikust® price? - Yes it will be included in the quotation as a separate line item. Installation by an approved competent installation team is recommended.
- Can a fabric finish be applied to a Varikust® door? - Yes it can but is not recommended, as it is not a practical finish from a wear and tear point of view.
- When do I need a fire escape door or a fire door and what are the differences? - Fire escape doors would typically have escape gear like a push bar, but might not be a fire door. Fire doors would keep the fire from spreading into another area but might not have fire escape gear.
- What extra Varikust® ironmongery options are available? - • Viewing Panel • Panic Bar • Lockable Handle (Opposite Panic Bar) • Door closer • Double Maglock • Electro Mechanical Solenoid Latch • Pull Handle • Auto Trigger Seal
- Can Aluglass Bautech’s doors be fitted into a standard wooden or door frame? - No, Aluglass Bautech’s Varikust® doors come complete, manufactured with their own door frames specially designed to achieve the various acoustic properties. We can however, on special request, do a decorative architrave that covers the existing aluminium frame. The whole door with frame can be installed into an existing steel frame providing the steel frame has… Read More
- Are Aluglass Bautech’s fire doors the same as other fire doors on the market? - The Varikust® Fire door has special acoustic properties that other doors on the market typically do not have. This would mean that there would be an additional premium to our doors and could cost double or almost even triple what other fire doors cost. Our doors are bespoke and completely custom made. Our doors are… Read More
- How do I identify an Aluglass Bautech acoustic door? - Some of our products have our logos on them, but our doors may have multiple rebates, are quite heavy and the door thicknesses should be roughly 60mm, 80mm or 100mm thick. If you are still uncertain, please take a photo and contact our office to try and assist.
- How does Aluglass Bautech guarantee an acoustic seal on a door? - By means of multiple rebates and threshold seal systems. Aluglass Bautech has through time managed to develop propriety. Our doors and systems have been tested in a controlled environment but many sites have unique acoustic characteristics. We would address and recommend solutions to any possible flanking paths not related to our installation.
- Do these Varikust® doors come in standard sizes? - Yes they do! Please go to the Varikust® product page for more information. We do however find that built openings are not exactly to these sizes and therefore we often custom make these doors at a premium.
- What is a soundproof door and why do I need it? - There is no such thing as a soundproof door but our acoustic doors reduce the sound that passes through the opening.
- What does VK mean and what kind of a door is this? - VK is an abbreviation of Varikust® which is the brand name for the Aluglass Bautech acoustic single or double doors. Various sizes and fire rating options available.
- Is a curved Variflex possible? - Yes, it is possible. The minimum radius would be 10 meters.
- How does floor level affect the performance of a Variflex® acoustic mobile partition? - As each element needs to be the same height, the maximum ‘out of level’ tolerance of a floor is 12mm.
- Is it possible to have a single suspension track flush with the ceiling? - No, the elements need to be turned and space is required between the ceiling and the top of the element to minimize damage from any pendular action of the element, when opening and closing the partition.
- Is it possible to stack the sliding elements outside of the conference room to maximize floor space? - Yes, if a wall plug is designed into the side wall, the door elements can be slide through the wall are parked outside of the room.
- From what structures can a Variflex® acoustic mobile partition be hung? - 1. A concrete structure 2. Steel I-beams 3. Rafters
- Do we manufacture a glass Variflex®? - Yes, this is our latest innovation.
- On a multi-function wall, are fixed posts needed where the walls join at 90 degrees? - A wall connection is added to the main wall for the side wall connection.
- Can a Variflex® partition be suspended from a coffered slab? - Yes, it is possible. Careful consideration should be given to the fixing points.
- Can Variflex® tracks cross each other? - No, they cannot. They can join as a T-junction.
- Is it possible to have a side door next to a telescopic element in a Variflex® partition? - No, a pass door cannot be placed next to the telescopic element. A pass door can be the first element, but it is not recommended.
- Is it possible to install a pass door into a Variflex® element where the ceiling height is 2300mm? - A pass door can only be built into a Variflex element at a minimum height of 2700mm. An option is to have a fixed door as element 1.
- Are there other alternatives to the Variflex® product? - Yes, there is a Varifold concertina folding door option (max size 8400 x 2700), but this option has no acoustic reduction.
- What stacking arrangements are available with Variflex® partitions? - 1) Single suspension tracks always stack crosswise. 2) Double suspension tracks have a variety of stack types. Please refer to the technical details tab of the link for information https://www.aluglass.co.za/products/variflex-mobile-acoustic-partitions/
- How is a brick wall treated to enable better acoustic control through it? - An acoustic consultant should be engaged to advise the most suitable solution.
- What are the maximum sizes of a pass door in a Variflex® mobile acoustic partition? - A pass door provides for a people to pass through a Variflex wall without having to open panels of the wall. The pass door sizing will differ according to the element height and width of a Variflex mobile acoustic partition.
- Can echoes inside a room be treated with a Variflex® mobile acoustic partition? - In most instances it is possible with the addition of absorption panels to the surfaces of the Variflex wall.
- If an element height is greater than a standard board, what jointing can be used? - Various types of board joint can be used. Where boards are joined with veneers or melawoods, there can potentially be pattern or colour variance.
- What type of finishes can we accommodate on a Variflex® mobile acoustic partition? - The surface finishes are highly variable and can include fabrics, upholstery, glass, Melawood, Formica, painted finishes and wall papers.
- What do different dB ratings mean? - Decibels are a measure of sound from 0 to 130 where 0dB is not audible to the human ear and 130dB sound will cause pain to the human ear. So, a 40dB sound reduction means that a sound measured at 100dB will be reduced to a sound measured at 60dB.
- How is success or failure of a Variflex® acoustic partition measured? - Provided the system is operated correctly and all seals are engaged, the system can be acoustically tested to ensure conformance to the specific sound reduction offered by different partition solutions.
- Do Variflex® acoustic partition systems come in standard sizes? - There are no standard sizes as each solution is specifically designed to fit a specific need.
- Can a Variflex® product work in my house? - There is every probability that a Variflex acoustic partition can be installed in a private residence.
- Is there a fire rated Variflex® partition system? - Currently there is a tested fire-rated Variflex solution.
- What is the maximum width and height of a Variflex® partition? - The width of a Variflex partition system is limited by what span the building can support. The widest installation to date is 70 metres. Space for the stacking of the elements always needs to be considered. The tallest elements installed to date are 12.5m high.
- How does one achieve total sound-proofing of a room? - There is no such thing as a sound-proof room. Sound can be reduced and modified with the use of specific building materials.
- Can we powder-coat tracks and extrusions? - Tracks are normally anodized. They can be powder-coated, but it is not recommended. The seal pressures can cause bonding of the seal to the to the powder-coat surface.
- Does the Variflex® system have a bottom track? - Variflex is a top hung system designed to provide for an uninterrupted floor surface. The partition seals top and bottom and the sides interlock with one another. A bottom track can be provided for to withstand high wind loads, however the floor finish is interrupted.
- What problems are solved by the use of Variflex® partitions? - Variflex is a mobile acoustic partition system which is used to divide a space into multi-functional spaces.
